Satisfactory Server RAM Calculator

Satisfactory servers are sized by how big the factory is, not how many people play. Pick your game stage and mods, and this estimates the peak RAM including the autosave spike, then points you at the plan that fits.

Factory size drives RAM far more than player count.

Why factory size, not players

Most game servers scale with how many people are connected. Satisfactory is different: the server simulates the whole factory continuously, so every constructor, belt, splitter, train and drone is memory it holds whether one person is online or none. A solo player with a sprawling late-game factory uses far more RAM than four players standing around a starter base.

That is why the calculator asks about your progression rather than your group size. Size the server to the factory you are building toward, not the one you have today, because Satisfactory factories only grow.

The autosave spike

The single most common cause of a Satisfactory server stutter is autosave. On each save the server serializes the entire factory state, which briefly needs 2 to 4 GB on top of the running baseline. Size a server to the number you see it idling at and every autosave becomes a hitch for everyone; on a tight server it becomes an out-of-memory crash. This is why an 8 GB plan is the floor even though a mid-game factory might idle at 6 GB.

NVMe storage matters here too: the faster the save writes, the shorter the spike. HostSimple Satisfactory servers run on NVMe with the headroom already built into the plan sizing.

Frequently asked questions

How much RAM does a Satisfactory dedicated server need?

It depends on the size of your factory, not the number of players. A fresh early-game world runs comfortably in about 4 GB, a mid-game factory with trains and oil wants 6 to 8 GB, and a late-game or mega-factory needs 8 to 16 GB. Every machine, belt item, train and drone is simulation state the server holds in memory, so the number climbs as you build, whether or not anyone is online.

Why does the server spike during autosave?

On each autosave the server serializes the entire factory to disk, which briefly copies a large amount of state and pushes memory 2 to 4 GB above the running baseline. If the server is sized to its idle usage with no headroom, that spike is where you get a stutter, or on a tight server an out-of-memory crash. The calculator sizes to the spike, not the baseline, which is why it recommends more than the number you see the server sitting at.

Does player count matter for RAM?

Barely. Satisfactory is built for up to 4 players by default and the simulation cost is dominated by the factory, not by who is connected. Adding players adds a little memory for their loaded areas, but a solo mega-factory uses far more RAM than four players standing in an early-game base. Size for the factory.

Is 8 GB enough for Satisfactory?

For most groups, yes, through the mid-game and into the early late-game. 8 GB is the right starting point and covers the autosave spike on a normal factory. Once you reach thousands of machines, nuclear power and drone networks, or run a heavy modpack, 16 GB keeps saves smooth. You can upgrade without losing your save.

Do mods change the requirement?

Yes. Content mods add machines, recipes and entities that all cost simulation memory, typically 25 to 60 percent more than the same vanilla factory. Purely client-side or visual mods don't affect the server. If you run a heavy modpack, plan for the next plan up.
